Mumbai news live updates: Mumbra Police Tuesday summoned recently suspended BJP national spokesperson Nupur Sharma for her controversial remarks on Prophet Muhammad, news agency PTI reported. Nupur Sharma was suspended from the party’s primary membership on Sunday. She is expected to be present before Mumbra Police Station on June 22, a senior police official confirmed. Even though the severity of Covid-19 cases remains mild and very few cases of hospitalisations are reported, the current test positivity rate (TPR) — the number of positive cases out of the total tests conducted — over the past week exceeds five times that of December 2021, when Omicron started proliferating in the third wave. Meanwhile, as the active Covid-19 count in Maharashtra stood at 7,429 on Monday, state health minister advised the citizens to wear masks to avoid any possible contraction of infection. A day after recording 1,494 cases on Sunday, the daily caseload dropped to 1,036 on Monday. This has been attributed to the plunge in testing in the weekend from 25,994 to 15,988 in the last 48 hours.

A case under Section 228 A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been filed against Rao at Abids Police Station on a complaint by a lawyer. A police officer said the case was registered late Monday night and further action will be taken after seeking legal opinion.Under Section 228 A of IPC whoever prints or publishes the name or any matter which may make known the identity of any victim of sexual assault shall be punished with imprisonment up to two years. The case was registered three days after the BJP MLA from Dubbak released the stills and video allegedly showing an MLA’s son in intimate act with the victim of gang-rape in a car. The MLA’s action had come under flak. However, he denied that he revealed the name or identity of the victim. He said he wanted to make public the evidence about the alleged involvement of a MIM MLA’s son in the incident. The BJP leader said since police were derailing the investigation by giving a clean chit to the MLA’s son, he released the video clip. He had told reporters on Monday that he was ready to face the case.

To counter the opposition Congress’s move to burn khaki shorts worn by RSS workers to show their opposition to saffronisation, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh workers have started collecting shorts and knickers from houses and sending them to the Congress headquarter in Bengaluru to be given to opposition leader Siddaramaiah. The move has triggered public outrage in the state. RSS workers of K.R. Pet unit in Mandya district of Karnataka have sent a parcel containing shorts, condemning the call given by Siddaramaiah to burn khaki shorts all over the state. The RSS workers claimed that the opposition leader won’t be able to burn the huge number of khaki shorts that will be sent to him. The workers went door to door in the villages and collected used shorts and knickers. Later they packed hundreds of shorts and knickers into a box and parcelled it to the Bengaluru Congress office. Activists of the NSUI had burnt khaki shorts in front of the residence of Education Minister B.C. Nagesh to protest against the revision of syllabus for school students. The ruling BJP had strongly condemned the incident and arrested 15 persons in this connection. Later, the Congress state unit began burning khaki shorts, slamming the ruling BJP for bending before the RSS in its policies and programmes. The campaign by the RSS is likely to be taken up by workers all over the state, according to sources.

Controversy erupted after a road in Bola Gram Panchayat in Karkala taluk of Udupi district was named after Nathuram Godse. In the presence of Karkala rural police, the gram panchayat authorities cleared the name board. “We will submit a complaint to the police and a report to the higher authorities in this regard,” said GP PDO Rajendra told DH. “We received a complaint from the public that a road at Padugiri in the gram panchayat jurisdiction has been named after Nathuram Godse, which has been cleared now,” he added. On receiving the information on the sign board being named after Nathuram Godse, Youth Congress members rushed to the spot and demanded action against the miscreants. Zilla Panchayat CEO H Prasanna said “some miscreants had placed a sign board named after Nathuram Godse. As soon as it was brought to the notice of the authorities, the gram panchayat authorities cleared it. I have directed the Karkala Taluk Panchayat EO to visit the spot and submit a report. Directions have been issued to the concerned to submit a complaint to initiate action against the miscreants who had placed the sign board.”
Attack on Tikait: ‘Mastermind’ woman arrested
The police conducted a search at the house of Umadevi on Saturday and found six machetes and two swords, the police officer said. The High Grounds police investigating the attack case on Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait, have arrested a woman by name Umadevi, a resident of Hebbal. According to the police, Umadevi, aged 32 years, is the sister of the accused Shivakumar who has been already arrested in the case along with two others – Bharath Shetty and Pradeep, activists of various organisations. Umadevi is also associated with an organisation. A senior police officer said that the role of Umadevi came to light during the questioning of the suspects arrested on May 30, the day of the attack. The police conducted a search at the house of Umadevi on Saturday and found six machetes and two swords, the police officer said. On Monday, she was produced in court and has been taken into police custody for three days.
22 killed in J&K target hits this year: In 14 cases, suspects held or killed

OF THE 20 cases of targeted attacks in J&K this year, mostly aimed at minorities, migrants and security personnel, the police have killed or arrested militants or their alleged associates suspected to have been involved in 14 of them — six cases are yet to be solved, according to police data compiled by The Indian Express. The 22 people killed in these 20 attacks include a Kashmiri Pandit government employee, a member of the Rajput community, four migrants and four leaders at the panchayat level. The list also includes four police personnel, an Army soldier, two CRPF personnel, two Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and three local residents. The data also show the geographical spread of the attacks: 10 were killed in central Kashmir, including seven in Budgam and three in Srinagar; 10 in south Kashmir, including five in Kulgam, three in Pulwama and one each in Anantnag and Shopian; and two in north Kashmir’s Baramulla. He told the police during questioning that he has no clue regarding the threat letter sent to Salman Khan. Though, Bishnoi claimed that he had threatened Salman Khan through his gang member a few years ago, but this time he has not issued any such threat. Bishnoi also said that the initials in the threat letter to Salman- ‘LB’ and ‘GB’ do not stand for Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar. According to sources, Lawerence Bishnoi has admitted that Goldy Brar who is in Canada has no rivalry with Salman Khan. Meanwhile, unfazed by the death threats, Salman Khan has flown to Hyderabad to shoot for his upcoming film Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali. The actor, who received additional security from the Mumbai police, was spotted at the private airport(Kalina) as he flew out of the city. Hyderabad Gang-Rape: Fourth Accused Held, Police On Look Out For 1 Other Suspect
Hyderabad police on Sunday arrested one more accused, the fourth one in the sensational gang-rape case while the search was on for the fifth accused person.
Third juvenile, who was accused for allegedly raping a schoolgirl in Hyderabad, was taken into custody by police on Sunday. This is the fourth one in case where a minor girl inside a Mercedes car in Hyderabad’s Jubilee Hills area on May 28. Police is still in search of the fifth accused person. Deputy Commissioner of Police Joel Davis said that in continuation of arrest of three accused earlier, one CCL (Child in Conflict with Law) was apprehended by Jubilee Hills police on Sunday. As per the DCP, the juvenile was being produced before the Juvenile Court for their safe custody. “So far out of 5 accused persons determined, one major accused and 3 juveniles are apprehended and efforts are on to apprehend the remaining. Further investigation is in progress,” the he said.
