Bengaluru: Amid rising cases of COVID-19 along with the Omicron variant, the Karnataka government on Thursday revised night curfew timings in Bengaluru as the city gears up for celebration to welcome the New Year. The Karnataka government said the prohibitory order within the limits of Bengaluru City Commissionerate shall remain with revised timings.

The order stated that the gathering of five or more persons in public places for the celebrations of New Year in any form is prohibited in Bengaluru.
However, the in-house celebrations in residential complexes and private clubs may be held for their members without organising any special events, the order read.
“Hotels, malls, restaurants, clubs or any similar establishment shall not organize any special DJ, events or shows in the city. However, they may carry out their regular business activities following COVID-19 protocols,” the order said.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar on Wednesday informed that the state has reported five new cases of COVID Omicron variant. Of these five new cases, one had travelled from the United States, another from the US via Qatar, one returned from Dubai, one arrived from Ghana via Doha and one came from Mumbai.

Masks And Vaccination More Effective, Not Night Curfews: WHO Chief Scientist
New Delhi: WHO chief scientist Soumya Swaminathan on Friday said night curfews are “not science-based” and it has no evidence of effectiveness. Swaminathan said wearing masks and vaccination against the COVID-19 can help “reduce transmission”.Also Read – Goodbye 2021. “If 90 per cent of the population wore a mask whole time, you would drastically reduce transmission. That we need to focus on. Keeping in mind that COVID is not the only thing affecting our lives in terms of health,” the WHO chief scientist told CNBC-TV18, News18 reported.
“Countries should look at their own data: people who are dying which vaccine did they take and how long ago did they have it, which population group should be targetted. This is how we learn about the immunity. What we know now is the neutralising antibody responses do wane over a period of time, at about 6 months,” Swaminathan said.
Is combining vaccines for boosters effective
On India allowing precautionary shots, Swaminathan spoke on combining vaccines for boosters,”So far that we have on this mix and match or combination have not included Corbevax. There is data on the Covavax that has been tried as a booster. Whether you take another shot of the same vaccine as booster or administer a different one, you get a good boost.”
Swamination said boosters give “good strengthening of the immune response as the memory cells get activated”. “What WHO said is that what vaccine you pick as the booster dose really depends on different things such as what you have used in that country, what supplies are available, what acceptable to the public, what the costs are, etc. Whatever it is, boosters give good strengthening of the immune response as the memory cells get activated,” the WHO chief scientist said, according to the report.
“In fact, some studies have shown that it may be preferable to use a different vaccine as a booster. Given the available data, I think countries can formulate their own policy based on their immune responses and the other factors such as cold storage, affordability. But, I think India is in a good position regarding number of vaccines available at hand,” Swaminathan said.
‘Schools should be the last to be closed’
The WHO chief scientist said “politicians need to start balancing the scientific-based method” to reduce the transmission and its impact on people. She said “schools should be the last to be closed and first to be opened” while stressing that vaccination should be given more preference.

This is why the WHO is calling for a science-based approach in a way that we protect the most vulnerable but at the same time don’t deprive those who need the vaccine,” Swaminathan said

बता दें कि हाल ही में नाइजीरिया से लौटा इस 52 वर्षीय व्यक्ति का पिंपरी चिंचवाड़ मुनिसिपल कॉर्पोरेशन के यशवंतराव चव्हाण अस्पताल में हार्ट अटैक के कारण 28 दिसंबर को निधन हो गया था. यह व्यक्ति कम से कम 13 साल से डायबिटीज से पीड़ित था. उनकी मौत निश्चित तौर पर गैर-कोविड कारणों से हुई है. इस व्यक्ति की मौत के बाद आई रिपोर्ट में पता चला है कि व्यक्ति संयोग से ओमीक्रोन वेरिएंट से संक्रमित था. गुरुवार को जारी आंकड़ों के अनुसार महाराष्ट्र में 450 मरीज ओमीक्रोन वेरिएंट से संक्रमित थे. 198 नए केस तो गुरुवार को ही सामने आए हैं, जिनमें से 30 विदेशी पर्यटक हैं. महाराष्ट्र में आने वाले ओमीक्रोन के ज्यादातर मामले आर्थिक राजधानी मुंबई से सामने आ रहे हैं. गुरुवार को सामने आए 198 में से 190 मुंबई में, 4 ठाणे में और एक-एक केस सतारा, नांदेड, पुणे और पिंपरी चिंचवाड़ में सामने आए हैं. انڈین ریاست گوا میں پرتگال کے معروف فٹ بالر کرسچیانو رونالڈو کا مجسمہ نصف کرنے پر تنازع پیدا ہوگیا ہے۔فرانسیسی خبر رساں ایجنسی اے ایف پی کے مطابق مقامی رہائشیوں نے حکام کی جانب سے علاقے پر حکمرانی کرنے والی سابق نوآبادیاتی طاقت کے سٹار کھلاڑی کی عزت افزائی کو بے حسی قرار دیا ہے۔اپنا احتجاج ریکارڈ کرانے کے لیے مظاہرین سیاہ جھنڈے اٹھائے کالنگوٹ قصبے کے اس مقام پر جمع ہوگئے جہاں رواں ہفتے رونالڈو کے مجسمے کی رونمائی کی گئی۔
مظاہرین نے غم و غصے کا اظہار کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ حکام نے کھیلوں کے انڈین سٹارز کو نظرانداز کرتے ہوئے اُس ملک کے ایک کھلاڑی کا انتخاب کیا جس سے گوا نے 1961 میں آزادی حاصل کی تھی۔گوا سے تعلق رکھنے والے انڈیا کے سابق کھلاڑی مِکی فرنینڈز نے اسے تکلیف دہ بات قرار دیا ہے، ان کا کہنا ہے کہ ’رونالڈو دنیا کے بہترین فٹ بالر ہیں تاہم یہاں گوا کے کسی فٹ بالر کا مجسمہ ہونا چاہیے۔‘حکمراں بھارتیا جنتا پارٹی کے مقامی وزیر مائیکل لوبو نے اے ایف پی کو بتایا کہ رونالڈو کا مجسمہ نصب کرنے کا مقصد یہ ہے کہ نوجوانوں کو حوصلہ افزائی کی جائے کہ وہ نہ صرف ملکی بلکہ بین الاقوامی سطح پر بھی نام پیدا کریں۔ان کا کہنا ہے کہ وہ تمام لڑکے اور لڑکیاں جو فٹ بال کو اپنا کیریئر بنانا چاہتے ہیں انہیں کرسچیانو رونالڈو جیسے کھلاڑیوں سے آگے بڑھنے کی ترغیب ملے گی۔’اگر آپ اپنے خواب کا تعاقب کرنا چاہتے ہیں اور اس کے بارے میں پرجوش ہیں تو آپ اپنی منزل حاصل کرسکتے ہیں اور یہی کچھ ہم نے تختی پر لکھا ہے۔‘
