CDS General Rawat cremated with full military honours, daughters perform last rites

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat, who was among the 13 people who died in a helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday, was cremated with full military honours in Delhi. The funeral of his wife Madhulika Rawat also took place on Friday. Their daughters Kritika and Tarini performed the last rites.

 

Pele to remain in hospital for a few days 

Brazilian football legend Pele said he will remain in a hospital in Sao Paulo “for a few days” to undergo new examinations on his colon tumor. The 81-year-old was brought to hospital this week for chemotherapy sessions to treat the tumour found during routine exams at the end of August. “Don’t worry, I’m just getting ready for…holiday season!” said Pele.

The ring worn by actress Katrina Kaif during her wedding ceremony is the Soleste engagement ring from Tiffany & Co, as per reports. The platinum ring features a cushion-cut centre stone and a double row of diamonds and is priced at over ₹7.4 lakh, reports added. Groom Vicky Kaushal reportedly opted for a platinum wedding band from Tiffany & Co.
Veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh took to Twitter to share a 23-year-old picture with two Pakistan players from 1998 Under-19 World Cup.Harbhajan asked his fans to recognise the two Pakistan players in the picture.One of the players was South African leg-spinner Imran Tahir, who had represented Pakistan in 1998 Under-19 World Cup, the other was Hasan Raza.

No farmer died of police action during protest: Govt 

Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar informed the Rajya Sabha on Friday that no farmer died due to action taken by police during the year-long protest against the now-scrapped farm laws. “The subject of compensation…to the families of the deceased farmers in the farmers’ movement is with the concerned state government,” he added. The agitation was suspended on Thursday.

Heroin worth ₹240 cr hidden in cavities of trolley bag seized in Mumbai

The customs officials have arrested two Zimbabwean nationals for alleged possession of 35 kg of heroin worth ₹240 crore at the Mumbai airport. A video of the seizure showed the heroin hidden in custom made cavities of the trolley bag. This is being cited as one of the biggest seizures of heroin at the Mumbai airport.

Mumbai Mayor receives death threat 

Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar and her family received a death threat through a letter written in Marathi, her office said on Friday.
The letter which also has obscene language claimed that if she messes with ‘Dada’, there will be repercussions ,The threat comes amid her dispute with BJP MLA Ashish Shelar over his alleged derogatory remarks about her.
