20-year-old badminton player crushed to death by garbage dumper in Pune

Kashmira Prashant Bhandari, a 20-year-old badminton player, was crushed to death by a garbage dumper in Pune. Her scooter skidded off the road while she was overtaking the truck. She was then run over by the truck. The police have filed an accidental death report and are looking for the truck and its driver, who ran away from the spot.

Man detained in MP for making nuclear bomb threat call to Mumbai Police

A man has been detained in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur for allegedly making a bomb threat call to Mumbai Police, an officer said.
The caller claimed that he was from the Army and there will be attack in Mumbai with “nuclear bomb” and bombings will occur at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Kurla railway station, near
 Shah Rukh Khan’s bungalow, etc.

A group of students and faculty members from the Indian Institutes of Management in Bengaluru and Ahmedabad flagged hate speech and attacks on minorities in a letter Friday to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying his silence “emboldens” voices of hate. The letter, mailed to the Prime Minister’s Office, has 183 signatories, including 13 faculty members of IIM Bangalore and three of IIM Ahmedabad. “Your silence on the rising intolerance in our country, Honourable Prime Minister, is disheartening to all of us who value the multicultural fabric of our country. Your silence, Honourable Prime Minister, emboldens the hate-filled voices and threatens the unity and integrity of our country,” says the letter. It urges him to steer the country away from “forces that seek to divide us”.Five faculty members of IIM Bangalore drafted the letter. They are Prateek Raj (Assistant Professor of Strategy); Deepak Malghan (Associate Professor, Public Policy), Dalhia Mani (Associate Professor, Entrepreneurship); Rajluxmi V Murthy (Associate Professor, Decision Sciences); and Hema Swaminathan (Associate Professor, Public Policy). Malghan is a prominent ecological economist.

Rahane should have led the Indian team in Johannesburg Test: Jaffer

Impose President’s Rule in Punjab: Khattar over PM security lapse

Following PM Narendra Modi’s security lapse in Punjab, Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday said that he has appealed to President Ram Nath Kovind to dismiss the state government and impose President’s Rule, under which upcoming state Assembly elections will be held. Khattar along with other BJP leaders have submitted a memorandum on the same to the Haryana Governor.
At least four people, including two women, have died following a collision between a car and a truck on Bengaluru’s NICE road on Friday, police said. Multiple other vehicles were also damaged due to a chain of accidents created because of overspeeding. Six other people were injured during the accident and are undergoing treatment, NDTV reported.
