Two siblings from Navi Mumbai were studying in different cities of Ukraine when the Russian invasion started. For the entire week, their parents were worried as they lost contact with Jhanvi and Poojan Thaker. They learnt only on Wednesday that the two have safely crossed over to Romania and Poland, respectively, said the mother. After Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, Jhanvi and her friends rushed at the Romanian border, but they were not allowed to cross over. They were stuck there for four-five days, said Vibha. Indian students to the airport in Romania for extraction to India. “My daughter Jhanvi left Ukraine and entered Romania where she was in shelter for the past four days. At the shelter, one student tested positive for COVID-19 and many others fell sick.” Poojan also left his college and had reached the Poland border, but was allowed to enter the European nation on Tuesday. “My son Poojan was trying to cross the Poland border, but he was stopped there. He was stuck there in the freezing temperature. On Wednesday, we found out that he is safe and has crossed the Poland border,” Vibha said. “On Wednesday, we got in touch with them for the first time since the war started. We are still worried, praying for our children to come home safely,” she added. Jhanvi is in the last year of MBBS at Odessa medical college and Poojan is in the second year at a medical college in Lviv city of Ukraine. Their parents Nimesh Thaker and Vibha Thakar were relieved to hear both their children’s voices after one week on Wednesday, but are now anxiously waiting for their safe return home. Vibha told mid-day that both called on Wednesday to inform them that they were out of war-struck Ukraine.

86 Karnataka students have returned from Ukraine

A total of 86 students have returned to Karnataka from Ukraine since February 27, the government said on Wednesday.  Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority commissioner Manoj Rajan, the nodal officer for the Ukraine crisis, said 694 students from Karnataka are stranded in Ukraine. Of them, authorities have established telephonic contact with the families of 425 students and 314 families have been contacted physically. “A 24/7 centralised call centre at the State Emergency Operations Centre is reaching out to relatives and parents of all stranded students and updating them about the latest measures taken. The central call centre has spoken to more than 447 families, Rajan said in a statement. “The database of stranded students has been circulated to the districts. The district administrations have constituted special teams to reach out to parents, explaining the measures taken by the GoI, GoK and evacuation methodology. More importantly, they are talking about confidence-building measures,” Rajan said.
Haveri MP Shivakumar Udasi said on Wednesday that External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has promised to make all efforts to bring back the body of Naveen. Udasi met Jaishankar and requested him to help bring Naveen’s body at the earliest. Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority commissioner Manoj Rajan, the nodal officer for the Ukraine crisis, said 694 students from Karnataka are stranded in Ukraine. “The minister said that all Indian students will be evacuated from Ukraine at the earliest,” Udasi told reporters here. Udasi said he also submitted the entire list of people from Karnataka living in Ukraine to the minister and asked him to evacuate all of them at the earliest. Udasi said he will be in Delhi for a few days and coordinate with the External Affairs Ministry officials in this regard.

Polling for the sixth phase of the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections to decide the fate of 676 candidates in the fray including incumbent chief minister  Yogi Adityanath for 57 assembly seats across 10 districts of the state has begun from 7 am on Thursday, March 3. The ten districts going to the polls in the sixth phase are Gorakhpur, Ambedkarnagar, Ballia, Balrampur, Basti, Deoria, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Sant Kabir Nagar, and Siddharthnagar. A total of 2,14,62,816 voters including 1,14,63,113 males, 99,98,383 females, and 1,320 third genders are expected to exercise their right to franchise to seal the fate of 676 candidates. The maximum numbers of candidates are in Tulsipur, Gorakhpur Rural, and Padrauna and the least are in Salempur. The prominent faces in the fray in this phase are Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi (Pathardeva), Education Minister Satish Chandra Dwivedi (Itwa), Health Minister Jai Pratap Singh (Bansi), state Ministers Shree Ram Chauhan (Khajani) and Jai Prakash Nishad (Rudrapur). Polling in the 57 constituencies will be held from 7 am till 6 pm on March 3.

हरदोई: यूक्रेन (Ukraine) में यूपी (UP) की एक मेडिकल कॉलेज (medical college student) की छात्रा द्वारा मदद के लिए डाला गया एक वीडियो (Video) उसके लिए लिए परेशानी का कारण बन गया है. दरअसल, वह यूपी के हरदोई (Hardoyi) जिले के एक गांव की प्रधान है और उसने मदद के लिए एक वीडियो डाला था. इसके बाद यह वीडियो उसकी परेशानी का कारण बन गया है. अब प्रशासन उसकी जांच करने में जुट गया कि ग्राम प्रधान रहते वैशाली यादव विदेश में पढ़ाई करने कैसे पहुंच गई. हरदोई जिले के तेरा पुरसैली गांव की प्रधान वैशाली यादव (Vaishali Yadav) का यूक्रेन में फंसे होने का वीडियो सोशल मीडिया वायरल होने के बाद इस मामले की जांचजिला प्रशासन ने शुरू कर दी है कि आखिर वह बिना अनुमति के विदेश कैसे चली गई. यह जानकारी वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों ने दी. बता दें कि वैशाली यादव ने कुछ दिन पहले सोशल मीडिया पर एक वीडियो अपलोड किया था जिसमें वह खुद को यूक्रेन से निकालने की बात कहती और मदद की गुहार लगाती हुई नजर आती है. वह यूक्रेन के एक मेडिकल कालेज से

एमबीबीएस की छात्रा हैं. हरदोई की मुख्य विकास अधिकारी (सीडओ) आकांक्षा राणा ने बताया कि इस पूरे मामले की जांच प्रशासन द्वारा की जा रही र्हैं कि आखिर ग्राम प्रधान रहते हुए वैशाली यादव मेडिकल की पढ़ाई करने के लिए विदेश कैसे गई? प्रशासन ने ग्राम सभा के खातों की जांच शुरू कर दी है. वैशाली के पिता और पूर्व ब्लाक प्रमुख महेंद्र यादव ने बताया कि उनकी बेटी वैशाली यादव एमबीबीएस की पढ़ाई के लिए यूक्रेन गई है और वह इस समय रोमानिया में है. उन्होंने बताया कि पिछले साल वह घर आई हुई थी और उस समय उसने ग्राम प्रधान का चुनाव लड़ा था, जिसमें वह प्रधान निर्वाचित हुई थी उसके बाद उसने ग्राम सभा की एक बैठक में हिस्सा लिया था. उन्होंने बताया कि किसी भी प्रधान को साल में कम से कम दो बैठकों में हिस्सा लेना होता है. उन्होंने बताया कि उनकी बेटी घर वापस आकर ग्राम सभा की दूसरी बैठक में हिस्सा लेगी.मुख्य विकास अधिकारी राणा ने बताया कि इस पूरे मामले की जांच की जा रही है कि आखिर प्रधान रहते हुए वह कैसे यूक्रेन चली गई? उन्होंने साथ ही कहा कि इसकी भी जांच की जा रही है कि उनके खातों का संचालन किसके द्वारा किया जा रहा है. उन्होंने कहा कि इसके बाद प्रधान के खातों पर रोक लगा दी गई है. CM Bommai says bringing mortal remains of Naveen top priority

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Wednesday that bringing home the mortal remains of Naveen Shekharappa Gyanagoudar, the student killed in Ukraine, was top priority for his government. The chief minister also said efforts were underway to get more information about a friend of Naveen’s said to have been injured in the attack. Bommai added that an ex gratia payment would be given to Naveen’s family. At his home, Naveen’s father, Shekharappa Gyanagoudar, said, two more years and all the sacrifices he had made to provide his son with an education abroad “would have been justified”. Naveen’s elder brother Harsha elaborated: “My father is a diploma engineer and toiled most of his life to educate us…He dedicated his life to ensure that both of us got jobs. He never spoke about financial problems with us.”

Union minister stays mum over his comment on ‘students failing to clear medical exams’ in India

Union Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi has drawn criticism over his statement on Indian students failing to qualify medical exams in India.On Tuesday, speaking to media persons in Belagavi, he had said, “Ninety per cent of Indians who study medicine abroad fail to clear qualifying exams in India. This is not the right time to debate why students are moving out to study medicine.”
